A ride in the rain today, absolutly drenched but hey thats life. No one ever said life is all plain sailing, although I was saturated it was still a good ride the only thing that would have been nicer is the wind could’ve buggered off (I always seem to be cycling into a headwind no matter where I ride).

Went to town with the Family this morning and rode home.

24.5km, 48mins 23secs, Avg 30.3km/h, Max 55km/h

Finally got out for another training ride. I headed out to the HILL. Waikite hill that is and “I knocked the bastard off”. A great feeling off accomplishment, I have cycled this hill before but on a mountain bike with a super low gear for hill climbing, this time though on a road bike. Just a bit harder but a lot quicker!!!

40km, 1hr 31mins 43secs, Avg 26.1km/h, Max 72km/h

Recovery ride, ended up being a bits and peices ride with no set route but hey it was done at a recovery ride level of low perceived effort. Was aiming for approx 20km or approx 1hr.

I acheived the desired result, although the first few kms were a bit hard my legs felt better for doing the ride.

21.85km, 52mins 50secs, Avg 24.8km/h, Max 57.5km/h

A day dawned  for a challenge today, I decided to ride from home to Dads. Ngakuru, Rotorua to Tauranga.

86.86km, 3hrs 11mins 26secs, Avg 27.2km/h, Max 75km/h

Aim of todays ride was training and to see how I was going for the 100k Flyer (04/04/2009 Rotorua to Taupo), I have set myself a time goal of 3hrs 20 mins. On todays ride I think that I will now reset my goal time too 3hrs.

Felt great to do a ride of this distance and time, good to see how the body copes with extended time on the bike. Also used todays ride to try a new electrolyte replacement drink and gel carb squeezies, both of which worked well and I felt definite benefit from using them.

The products tryed today were;

Balance Muscle Technology Endurance Elite Fuel Supply Restore Energy Powder for Isotonic re-hydration, Electrolyte and amino recovery and Restores cellular balance fast. Berry blast flavour.

Balance Muscle Technology Endurance Elite Fuel Supply Squeezepacks for Ultimate energy boost, which is Fast absorbing, Ideal for intense and prolonged exercise, with great taste (this last point is debatable though it isn’t as bad as some products I have tryed in the past). Tropical crush flavour.

Both products are made in NZ for Nutra-Life Health and Fitness.

Last aquathon in the summer series tonight, I decided to cycle from work, do the aquathon then cycle back to work. It was a great workout and to do it and feel good after I had finished was a great high, it turned out that I did more than a sprint tri.

Swim 300m 6mins 11secs, Run 5.5km 34mins 20secs

Bike 26.57km, 1hr 02mins 39secs, Avg 25.4km/h, Max 76km/h

Well after an aborted attemp at a ride yesterday in the early morning, it was so cold after the stinking hot weather we have had that I couldn’t get warmed up and had chattering teeth by the 2km mark so it was back home to some warm clothes and a cup of coffee.

Anyway as I was about to say today was the RATS beginner bunch ride at 0900 so after sleeping in I chucked my bike and gear in the car and made it to town just in time. Only 5 of us turned up today, all with a reasonable ability so we headed out around the lake via Ngongotaha to the Okere Falls Store for the obligatory coffee stop (its what our beginners bunch ride is all about).

After the coffee stop 2 of our group headed back to town by the S.H 33 route with a detour out S.H 30 to Ruato Bay then back into town, whilst the rest of us headed back the same way we came out.

56.55km, 2hrs 13mins 14secs, Avg 25.4km/h, Max 60.5km/h

A great ride had by all and I am looking forward to the next bunch ride.

Finally got back on the bike today work seems to always get in the way of training, oh the joys of having to earn a living as well as trying to train properly.

I headed out to do the Wakite hill, due to rain (feeling chilled) and starting to feel some knee pain I pulled the pin on doing the hill proper I pulled out after climbing the foothills. I think that I made the right decision at the time there will always be other times I suppose.

The best thing about todays ride was I used my Tri bars extensivly throughout the ride, they make a considerable difference to aero-dynamics (I know stating the obvious, some of us are slow learners), although I did use them in the Kinloch Tri I didn’t have the confidence to use them as much as I could have and definitly not at any speed. Todays ride saw me on the aero bars at a constant 57km/h, so progress was made!!!

31.31km, 1hr 07mins, Avg 28.0km/h, Max 62.5km/h

Most of ride on flat to rolling to get the legs working again whilst allowing for recovery after the effort of the Tri yesterday.
