Today completed my second sprint Tri. Took part in the Kinloch Contact Tri.

750m swim + T1 (transition 1) 23mins 41secs

20km bike + T2 44mins 55secs

5km run 30mins 10secs

Total time 1hr 38mins 47secs

Very hot conditions after an 1100 start time, very choppy swim due to onshore wind made the swim leg harder for me though the wetsuit helped by approx 5mins over my swim time for the Blue Lake Tri on 25/01/2009.

The ride went well on an undulating course with what seemed to be a constant headwind.

The transition into the run was very hard and took the first circuit of the run course for the legs to free up.

All in all I am pleased with today and now will start looking to next Tri to do.

Went for a run today, being that today was Waitangi Day (a public holiday) I decided to take Laura-Jane (my oldest) out for with me, (L-J) rode her bike while I ran.

We ran /cycled for approx 6km (will have to measure exact distance) in 40mins 21secs. Felt good at the end, had a good steady pace. Early afternoon in high 20′s was hard work but well worth it.

After having my plans to join the social training run in the Redwoods buggered up by work I got home with enough time to chuck on my cycling gear and head out for a quick ride. I decided on a new loop tonight, headed down Totara Rd left onto Whirinaki Vly Rd right onto Waikite Vly Rd right onto Mangatete Rd Sth right onto Whirinaki Vly Rd left into Totara Rd.

Awesome ride felt powerful and had a great workout. I finally hit the 30km/h average that I have been trying for (just a personal milestone).

13.44km, 26mins 26secs, Avg 30.5km/h, Max 56km/h, Cadence 90-95

AQUATHON

I did my first aquathon (swim followed by a run, as opposed to a duathlon which is usually a run-bike-run format) tonight after work.

Opted for the short course swim of 300m followed by a 5.5km run as I wanted to try a swim with the wetsuit. I found that the wetsuit helped immensely but the long sleeves were to constricting (they will be shortened before the Kinloch Tri). I also discovered that my biggest hassle with the swim (through reading during the week and observation tonight) is feeling overwhelmed by the open water swim. Tonights short course swim was in the shallows and I was able to follow the line where the lakebed sloped off into deeper water, it was a much easier swim without having to overcome the feeling of “I’m out of my depth”.

Swim 6mins 50secs, Run 36mins 10secs, Total time 42mins 20secs.

12.6km, 27mins 11secs, Avg 27.8km/h, Max 52.5km/h. Cadence 85-95

Just a quick ride around the block after no training for most of the week (felt overdone after doing the hell ride the day after the tri).

Work has also gone a bit haywire and not leaving much time for training, I guess I will have to get onto getting my indoor trainer down from Auckland so I can ride at night.
